Introduction

The System Engineering Methodology is documented in several OOI CI documents, including the CI System Life Cycle.

Engineering Process and Plan Overviews

A brief summary:

  • There are 5 Releases in the 5-year development project: Data Distribution Network, Managed Instrument Network, OnDemand Measurement Processing, Integrated Modeling Network, Interactive Ocean Observatory.
  • There are 4 Phases in each Release: Inception, Elaboration, Construction, Transition.
  • There are 2 or 3 Iterations in each of the first 3 Phases.
  • There are 3 Periods in each 8-week Iteration: Design Period, Development Period, Wrap-Up Period.
