Integrated Observatory Management Requirements Workshop
The workshop outcome and resulting requirements are documented in the IOM workshop report (FINAL) and the OOI Cyber User Requirements (DOORS Export).
Organization
- Date: May 28-29, 2008 (Wednesday AM through Thursday PM)
- Location: Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD - Keck Center - Conference Room 150
- Duration: 2 days
- Participants: internal and external
- Size: 12 attendees
A preparation phone meeting was held on Monday, 5/19 at 9:30am PDT (12:30PM EDT) to discuss the workshop goals, the participant questionnaire, outcome expectations and further questions.
Description
This workshop informs the operational requirements for the management of the integrated observatory network. It will focus on the needs of observatory operators and their interactions with users who utilize interactive instrumentation. The meeting will be concerned only with requirements elicitation from domain scientists and engineers through understanding use cases and current practices, and not on elaborating or refining the actual design of the OOI CI.Six principle topics will be covered during the workshop:
- Domains of concern and authority for the marine operators and the CI
- Areas where the CI and the marine infrastructure interact and are dependent
- Roles and responsibilities of the marine operators and users
- CI processes and procedures to facilitate marine operator/user interactions
- Policy and governance issues in a shared resource environment
- Identification of performance metrics to be collected and analyzed on an ongoing basis
Note: This workshop covers one topic in a series of OOI CI Requirements and Design Workshops. Please refer to the workshops homepage for further information and background on the OOI program.

Logistics and Reimbursement
All workshop participants should make their own flight arrangements to San Diego and retain receipts for reimbursement through Karen Schwamb at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Karen's contact information is:
Karen Schwamb / Administrative Associate
Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering Department
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

Telephone: 508-289-2675 / Fax: 508-457-2006
We've contracted a block of rooms for workshop attendees at the Sheraton La Jolla at 3299 Holiday Court, La Jolla, CA 92037 (858.453.5500). They provide plenty of information (including directions) on their web site.
http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/area/directions.html?propertyID=1959
Workshop attendees should call the Sheraton before 13 May to reserve your room and let the reservationist know that you are with the CI Requirements Workshop - Woods Hole. You should receive a rate of $159.00 per night, and will be responsible for payment at checkout. Please retain your receipt for reimbursement through Karen.
A taxi from the airport to the hotel is quickest and easiest way to the hotel. But if you choose to go "car-free" you should coordinate with other attendees for transportation from the hotel to the workshop location - as campus parking is usually a bugger AND the meeting room is approximately 1.6 miles from the hotel. Our "on-site" coordinator - Rita Bauer - can help with driver-rider coordination. Her contact information is:

For those who might wish to walk, we recommend that you give yourself 30 to 45 minutes to walk from the hotel to the meeting room - Scripps Institution of Oceanography - Keck Center - Conference Room 150 (this is an estimate for a brisk pace walk with some significant hills).
For those who choose to rent a car and drive - we have reserved 10 spaces in Lot P014 at the Keck Center. Detailed directions are found on google maps view above - or on the attached map.
Workshop attendees will receive a full breakfast and lunch on both days of the workshop. You will be on your own for dinner each day - but we will provide you with a list of local restaurants to make your selection easier. Woods Hole meal perdiem reimbursement rate is limited to $45 per day. As a single meal, dinner is limited to $25. Please retain your receipts and submit to Karen for reimbursement.
We hope this provides you with the information you need - but if not - please do not hesitate to contact Karen or Rita should you have questions regarding the workshop or need assistance in making your arrangements.
