Description

The Data Product Generation Requirements Workshop will focus on the user requirements for the generation of data products from raw data acquisition through data product quality control to their preservation and distribution. In this context, users may include instrument providers, observatory operators and scientific/educational users, among others. Three aspects will be discussed:

• instrument/actuator data acquisition/transmission using direct access, data streaming or other means as well as their command, control and monitoring. Intertwined issues include authorization, authentication and policy as they affect data acquisition/transmission.

• instrument lifecycle management ranging from initial configuration to data segmentation/streaming to data product generation through processing services. As for data acquisition, crosscutting issues of security and access, and of policy, must be considered.

• the requirements for data preservation and distribution, including models for data and metadata as they relate to syntactic and semantic access, data archival, and data discovery, publication and subscription. In addition, association and citation of attributes with data resources will be considered.

We've contracted a block of rooms for workshop attendees at the Sheraton La Jolla at 3299 Holiday Court, La Jolla, CA 92037 (858.453.5500).  They provide plenty of information (including directions) on their web site.

Workshop attendees should call the Sheraton before 06 May to reserve your room and let the reservationist know that you are with the CI Requirements Workshop - Woods Hole.  You should receive a rate of $159.00 per night, and will be responsible for payment at checkout. Please retain your receipt for reimbursement through Karen.

A taxi from the airport to the hotel is quickest and easiest way to the hotel.  At that point, we encourage you to coordinate with other attendees for transportation from the hotel to the workshop location - on campus parking will be PRE-RESERVED for a limited number of spaces, so please contact Rita Bauer (rmbauer@ucsd.edu) to let her know if you will be driving. For those who might wish to walk, we recommend that you give yourself 20 to 30 minutes to walk from the hotel to the meeting room - Room 5302 Atkinson Hall - Warren College (this is an estimate for a brisk pace walk with some significant hills). For those who choose to rent a car and drive - parking spaces will be RESERVED in Lot 502-A (Equality Lane)  and Lot 504-A (Justice Lane) as shown on the campus map or detailed map. 

Your route to Atkinson Hall (and parking) is North on Villa La Jolla Drive (right from Holiday Court or the Sheraton), straight through two lights and right onto Gilman Drive.  Straight through one stop sign and then left on Voigt Drive at the next stop sign.  Go straight through the next stop, and a right at the next stop keeps you on Voigt drive, which winds you around to Justice Lane and Equality Lane (the next two stop signs).  If you arrive late, and cannot find parking in the pre-reserved spaces, please proceed to Lot 502 or up the hill and park in the new parking structure (not shown on this map) on the Northwest corner of the intersection of Hopkins and Voigt.

Workshop attendees will receive a light breakfast and full lunch on day one - a full breakfast and lunch on day two.  You will be on your own for dinner each day - but we will provide you with a list of local restaurants to make your selection easier.  Woods Hole meal perdiem reimbursement rate is limited to $45 per day.  As a single meal, dinner is limited to $25.  Please retain your receipts and submit to Karen for reimbursement.
